Rio Ferdinand makes bold call on Harry Kane’s 2026 Ballon d'Or chances
Rio Ferdinand reflects on why Harry Kane deserves the Ballon d'Or
Former England defender Rio Ferdinand has backed Harry Kane as a major contender for the 2026 Ballon d'Or underscoring the striker’s performances and accomplishments.
The 47-year-old gave his full support behind Kane citing the striker’s extraordinary 2025-26 season of 73 goals for Bayern Munich and the rest for England. Kane won the European Shoe and helped Bayern secure the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal and scored six times as England finished in third place at the World Cup.
While Kane leads betting odds among the 30 nominees for the October 26 ceremony in London, though some fans question the club’s push pointing to competitors like Mbappe, Yamal, and Messi who boast Champions League or World Cup triumphs Kane lacks.
On social platform X, users have been responding to the current video with one writing, “The last time Rio Ferdinand said Ballon Dor 15x times in a row Rodri took it from vini on the last day.”
Second added, “ Harry Kane will get the Gerd Müller Trophy. Once clubs themselves start acting like this & Bayern becoming like Madrid 2024, then you know Harry Kane won’t win. You don’t beg for it. I literally don’t see any other club begging like this. He did the same thing with Vini.”
