Trump dismisses AI extinction fears, raises new concerns

President Donald Trump rejected dire warnings from AI researchers who claimed that artificial intelligence is becoming uncontrollable and there are chances that it could kill all humans within 10 years.

The warning comes from researcher Anthropic Alignment Science Lead Evan Hubinger who posted on X that there is a greater than 10% probability that advanced artificial intelligence could cause human extinction within a decade, highlighting that the industry still lacks a reliable plan to align superintelligence.

Even the warning was also backed by AI Godfather Geoffrey Hinton who saw this extinction possibility as “non unreasonable.”

Asked by reporters upon departing Dallas what he thinks of AI doomsday warnings related to human extinction and if has any concerns about it, Trump said, “No, I don’t have any.”

With that Trump also shed light on other concerns, citing, “I have concerns that if we don't win AI, we're going to be put in a very bad position.”

"We are leading China right now by a pretty good period. I would say a year, which is, you know, considered a lot,” he added.

When it comes to the AI landscape, both countries, the United States and China, have been engaged in competition to gain supremacy over this domain.

This contest goes far beyond software development; it includes semiconductor supply chains, national security, economic infrastructure, and the race toward Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
