Royal house says King and Queen will attend King Harald’s funeral with children

Denmark’s royal family on Tuesday said that King King Frederik X and Queen Mary will attend the funeral of King Harold of Norway on Wednesday.

Crown Prince Christian and Princess Benedikte will also travel with their parents to attend the funeral.

The Danish royal family also shared multiple pictures of the king and queen’s visit to Norway in 2024 with a statement honoring the late Norwegian monarch.

The Danish language statement said:

“Over the years, the Danish royal family has had a close and warm relationship with the Norwegian king and his family: from state visits and official events to family holidays and private gatherings in both Norway and Denmark.During the Royal Couple's state visit to Norway in May 2024, His Majesty The King himself spoke of the special bond between the two royal houses in a speech:"Dear Uncle Harald and Aunt Sonja. Mary and I always look forward to visiting Norway. We ‘koser oss’ with you and the Crown Prince Couple, for we are not only neighbours and colleagues, but family and friends."Their Majesties The King and The Queen, His Royal Highness The Crown Prince and Her Royal Highness Princess Benedikte will attend the state funeral in Oslo, which will take place on Wednesday, 9 September. Her Majesty Queen Margrethe has unfortunately had to send her apologies.”
