Zelensky responds to Trump envoys’ latest Russia-Ukraine peace ideas

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky has responded to the Trump administration’s envoys' peace plan to end the Russia-Ukraine war, which has been ongoing for years.

On weekends, US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited both Moscow and Kyiv to discuss the peace idea to resolve the conflict.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Zelensky gave a cautious backing to Trump-vouched peace ideas, calling them “pretty good and decent ideas.”

“We need to understand whether we can implement them and make them effective. I don't know yet if it will work out,” the Ukrainian president explained.

Zelenskyy remained unclear whether these plans would be workable or not. The remarks followed visits by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kyiv, where they delivered updated peace initiatives in a bid to revive stalled negotiations.

According to the president, two issues could shape the peace agreement including energy and grain. However, he did not disclosed the further details of plans.

On Monday, Russia also signalled the possibility of resuming trilateral peace talks with Ukraine and the US.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters, “We, too, do not rule out the resumption of the trilateral format, but it is too early to say anything about the venue or the exact dates at this stage.”

"Undoubtedly, any attempts...represent a small step towards peace, and we truly hold the peace-building efforts of ​the American negotiators in very high regard,” Peskov added.

On early Tuesday, Russia resumed ballistic missile attacks on Kyiv, killing two people and leaving more than 10 injured.
