Linda Cardellini fights back tears after winning first Emmy award: 'It's a real dream come true'
Linda Cardellini is officially an Emmy winner
Linda Cardellini couldn't control her emotions while accepting her first Emmy award on Sunday.
The 51-year-old actress won the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie trophy for her performance in HBO’s DTF St. Louis.
“I’m sorry, it’s a little embarrassing, but this has just been an unbelievable journey,” Linda said while weeping.
“And thank you to the Academy and thank you to everyone along this way, all these years, who’ve helped me get to this moment. It’s a real dream come true," she added.
Linda took home the supporting actress award by beating out Dakota Fanning, Laurie Metcalf, Joy Sunday, Youn Yuh-jung, and Constance Zimmer.
Previously, in an interview with People magazine, the actress opened up about playing Carol Love-Smernitch in the HBO series.
At that time, Lindsay said that the role was “very different from everybody else I’ve played," adding Carol "does not wear her heart on her sleeve at all.”
She also said that it was "really fun" to play such an "opaque" role because, “in the beginning, you think something about her, and at the end, you know more about her, and you might change your mind.”
