King Charles given little notice before Prince Harry, Meghan's UK move
King Charles kept in the dark until days before Sussexes' move announcement
King Charles reportedly learned just days ago that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are planning to move their family back to the United Kingdom.
The couple is preparing to return to Britain after living in California for the past six years. Their children, Archie and Lilibet, are expected to begin attending school in the UK starting next month.
The family plans to keep their California home and property in Portugal, while establishing a new, private residence in Britain. The location of their new home has not been made public.
Although Prince Harry is not expected to return to official royal duties, the move naturally raises questions about his future role in the UK. However, it's understood that King Charles has made clear there will be no change to Prince Harry and Meghan's status as private individuals outside of official royal responsibilities.
This news comes shortly after the Sussexes had a rare in-person reunion with King Charles and Queen Camilla, marking the first time the King had seen his grandchildren in person in more than four years.
Prince Harry and Meghan originally moved to California in 2020 after stepping back from royal duties. Since then, security concerns have played a major role in the family's limited visits to the UK, as they lost government-funded protection after leaving their official roles.
