Stunning Solar Eclipse creates rare ‘Devil Horns’ over Qatar sea

A photographer captured a rare stunning solar eclipse rising over the sea in Qatar, creating an unusual shape that appeared like two glowing “devil horns”.

The captivating image was caused by the eclipse combined with atmospheric optical illusion. During an annular solar eclipse on December 26, 2019, an atmospheric refraction over the water, forming the horn-like shape as the sun rose.

According to reports, an amateur astronomer captured the intriguing view that NASA later honored as Astronomy Picture of the Day, calling it the Etruscan Vase effect from warm air blending light.

According to some viewers, the real photos were AI-generated while others linked the dramatic sight to old superstitions though it is just the moon, sun and atmosphere coinciding flawlessly.

On social platform X, enthusiasts share compelling reactions with one user writing, “solar eclipse that looks like devil horns? One of nature’s wildest optical illusions—two fiery arcs rising above the horizon like something from another world.”

Second remarked, “Imagine that being seen in Medieval Europe. People would have thought it was the end of times.”
