Tate McRae gets candid about being labelled 'MAGA' supporter over last year's hit track
Tate McRae also discusses her choice of not wading into political debates
Tate McRae often reportedly avoids political debates; however, last year she was landed in hot water in a certain political quarter when she was branded a MAGA supporter.
This is when he duetted with fellow singer Morgan Wallen on the track What I Want, which, by the way, became a top hit and ranked at No. 1 on the Hot 100.
However, it came at a cost of being labeled.
Due to collaborating with Wallen, who was suspected of being a MAGA supporter, though he never publicly endorsed Donald Trump.
Adding fuel to the fire, McRae's boyfriend Cole Hughes, an NHL player, laughed at the US president's controversial joke during a call that he made after the athlete won at the Olympics earlier this year.
Now, in an interview with Variety, the musician said she preferred action over words.
"I like to say my piece through organisations I support and the environment that I have on tour,” she said.
For instance, the Greedy hitmaker shared a video on TikTok that promoted a cause whose proceeds, she said, would go to a programme focusing on preventing suicide among LGBTQ+ youth and the Global Fund for Women.
“I think it’s pretty obvious what kind of person I am and the things I support. And I hope that my fans can see that through the things that I’m putting my energy towards," she concluded.
