New wildfire near Logan Lake reaches 10 hectares, forces Highway 97C closure

A wildfire near Logan Lake has forced the closure of Highway 97C in both directions as firefighters continue to respond to the growing blaze.

According to Castanet, the highway is closed between Logan Lake and Highland Valley Copper Mine Road.

DriveBC said the closure affects traffic in both directions, with another update on road conditions expected around 8:00 PM.

The fire was first reported on the afternoon of 29 July, with local fire crews called to the scene shortly after 2:00 PM following multiple reports of smoke near Highway 97C.

The BC Wildfire Service has listed the fire at 10 hectares as of 3:00 PM, although officials say the situation remains active and the size could change as crews continue to assess the blaze.

Castanet reported that aircraft, including water-bucketing helicopters, were seen responding to the fire, based on reports shared by members of the public on social media.

Emergency crews remain at the scene and motorists are being urged to avoid the area while the highway closure remains in place.
