Charlie Wilson's severe health woes come to light
Charlie Wilson opens up about severe health condition that left him unable to walk
Charlie Wilson recently broke his silence and opened up about his severe health woes.
The 73-year-old American singer-songwriter and record producer appeared on the recent episode of radio host Big Boy’s Neighborhood podcast, where he opened up about suffering a series of strokes in 2025 that impaired his ability to walk and perform.
Wilson, who had to put extensive efforts into re-learning how to walk, told the host how his health crisis started, saying, "I went to some shows, and I came back, and I was another person.”
"My wife can catch it, just like that. She said, 'Something ain't right wth you,' and off to the hospital we went,” he added, alluding to his wife, Mahin Wilson.
After getting some tests done at the hospital, the co-founder of The Gap Band was informed that he had suffered "that many strokes, at the same time.”
Wilson went on to share that he cannot recall anything from his visit to the hospital except his family was working to see him pull through.
"I knew God was with me and I knew my wife was praying every day, every hour of the day," he noted.
Notably, the You Dropped a Bomb on Me crooner’s health crisis robbed him of the ability to walk and it took him six months to relearn “how to walk again.”
"I am not finished yet, I've got a long way to go. I'm still who I am, vocally,” he stated.
It is pertinent to mention that Charlie Wilson marked his successful return to the stage at the AFRAM music festival in Baltimore in June of this year.
