How Liam Payne’s fortune will be handled revealed in court records

Liam Payne’s son Bear is set to inherit the late singer’s entire estate, according to newly released court documents.

The former One Direction star died in October 2024 at the age of 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Payne did not leave a will, meaning his estate is being handled under UK intestacy laws. His former partner Cheryl and music lawyer Richard Bray have been given authority to manage the estate.

Court records show Payne left assets worth around £28.6 million. After debts, taxes and other costs were paid, the value of the estate was reduced to just over £21 million.

As Payne's only child, eight-year-old Bear is expected to inherit the full amount. Documents filed with the High Court also state that the estate can be managed in a way that benefits him until he is old enough to take control of it himself.

Although Payne was in a relationship with Kate Cassidy at the time of his death, the couple were not married or in a civil partnership. Under UK inheritance rules, this means she is not automatically entitled to any part of the estate.

Sources close to Cheryl said she would always act in Bear’s best interests and ensure his future is protected.

Payne and Cheryl welcomed Bear in March 2017. Although they ended their relationship the following year, they remained committed to co-parenting their son.

Payne's funeral was held in November 2024 and was attended by family, friends, Cheryl and his former One Direction bandmates.
