Prince Edward and his wife Sophie are celebrating their  27th wedding anniversary, a day after the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh rode in a carriage with Princess Anne on the third day of Royal Ascot.

The couple got married on 19 June 1999 in St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. They were not part of the Royal Procession on Friday as they marked their wedding anniversary privately.

Video of their wedding was circulated on social media, with royal fans reminiscing about the event which gained global attention.

In one clip the couple are seen bending the knee to the late Queen Elizabeth during the wedding.

One royal fan wrote,"I also watched the royal wedding on tv at the time and still do and snap the pictures on my phone they are such a sweet couple and still in love 27 years later."

Another said, "That wedding was the first one I remember I’m almost 44 now and I was 16 almost 17 at the time and several weeks earlier I started my interest in Edward and Sophie then definitely so in Love and underrated." 

Prince Edward is the youngest child of the late Queen Elizabeth II and has been praised for his dedication and support to the monarchy.
