Harry Styles says he struggled with fans’ expectations
Harry Styles recalls time he withdrew from friends after touring
Harry Styles says he became very isolated after finishing his last tour in 2023.
The 32-year-old singer is currently on his Together, Together tour, but he has recently opened up about how he struggled after his previous tour, Love On Tour, ended.
“I was supposed to spend New Year’s with friends and I landed in Italy and felt really unwell, so I just went home," he began while speaking on the Q With Tom Power podcast.
He continued, “And I woke up and I had this kind of beautiful New Year’s by myself. I was feeling the most alone I’d felt in a really long time, but in the most beautiful way. I didn’t feel lonely at all. I was just feeling myself kind of shut out from a lot of the world".
He explained that he began saying no to invitations and preferred staying at home rather than traveling or going out.
“I think I got used to saying no to invites from friends and maybe a weekend trip or a birthday party or something," he added.
He said this gradually led him to spend more time alone and feel disconnected from the outside world.
“I just got used to, you know, if I have a week at home, I don’t want to go somewhere else for three days. I just want to stay home.
Styles shared that during a trip to Italy, he ended up alone on New Year’s and realised how much he had been withdrawing from others. He said he didn’t feel lonely in a negative way, but more like he was shutting himself off from everything around him.
. “And when I got to Italy and was in this quiet place, I felt like, ‘OK, if I’m going to spend all this time out here and I’m going to keep saying no to everything, I’m just going to shut myself off from the world’.”
He added that after a long period of touring, he became used to isolation and stopped engaging with social plans.
Styles also said he has struggled with how people see him. He explained that fans often view him as a “perfect” person, and he found it difficult to match that image.
“I had this relationship with my own image where people had this projected version of me that was perfect. “And when the standard you hold yourself to is this perfect person, it’s impossible not to feel like you’re falling short."
