Contemporary British artist David Hockney, who was a notable contributor to the pop art movement of the 1960s, passed away at the age of 88.

​The "celebrated" English painter and photographer's death was confirmed by his publicist, revealing that David died "peacefully" at his home just one month before his 89th birthday.

​A statement shared by his spokesperson, via The Telegraph, read, “The celebrated British artist David Hockney, one of the most important figures in contemporary art in both the 20th and 21st centuries, passed away peacefully at home on 11 June 2026, one month short of his 89th birthday.”

​David, who was born in Bradford in 1937, was voted as the most influential British artist of the 20th Century.

​His remarkable work includes "Portrait of an Artist," "Mr and Mrs Clark and Percy", "Bigger Trees Near Warter," "The Arrival of Spring in Woldgate" and many more.

​David famously revolutionized the digital art world by adopting the Apple iPad for his work.

​Swimming pools featured in the La La Land movie were inspired by the late artist's work.

​One of his iconic paintings, "A Bigger Splash," portraying a Californian swimming pool, painted in 1967, was sold for £ 2.6 million in 2006 at an auction at Sotheby’s.
