Jim Parsons unveils dark side of his 'Big Bang Theory' success
Jim Parsons reflected on the hidden struggles behind his TV success
Jim Parsons, known for his role as Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory, claimed that his successful acting career was built on an enormous trade-off.
The 42-year-old actor with an acting career people go crazy for said that when he reached the peak of his stardom, he was not happy, but was overwhelmed with habitual routines which left him anxious and "miserable."
During a recent appearance on All Out with Jon Dean, via Fox News, Parson said, “I look back now and realize that there were many ways, at some of the best moments of my life, I was miserable."
“I was not happy. I was stressed."
The Emmy-winning actor explained, “I felt that there was so many plates I was supposed to be keeping in the air and that the success and the good things of life that were happening were only due to this overworking … discipline and whatever and maybe to a degree that was true. I don’t know.”
Despite his state, Parson admitted that his discipline might have played a major role in his successful career.
“I can’t say, because that’s how I was, but I wouldn’t do that again and for any amount of money … just because it was stressful and miserable at times. I made myself miserable," Parson added.
When host Jon Dean asked if he was talking about work ethic, Parson responded, “If you want to call it that. It translated in part into a work ethic, but it was really just obsessive behavior basically.”
He further explained, “Yes, I was disciplined. Yes, I had a good work ethic, but a lot of it was because it was kind of OCD in nature."
ABC drama Big Bang Theory became one of the hit sitcoms of TV with 12 seasons running from 2007 to 2019.
Later, its prequel was also created, titled Young Sheldon, starring Ian Armitage as Sheldon Cooper.
