Chutou, a Border Collie, was an internet celebrity. He had over 1.5 million followers on social media.

His owner, Guo, a travel influencer, took him on trips across China.

The dog was known for his loyalty, intelligence and gentle temperament.

But the world of Guo was upended when he was in Georgia and received a call that his dog was missing.

The travel influencer cut his trip short to reach his parents' home in Henan province, where he left Chutou.

CCTV footage, according to SCMP, showed two suspects taking the dog away on an electric bike.

For his four-legged companion, Guo tracked the alleged kidnapper weeks later.

He offered the suspect 10,000 yuan to return Chutou.

But what he received in return broke Guo.

The presumed abductor said Chutou followed him voluntarily, and on top of this, he thought the dog was a stray.

But Guo dismissed this account, stating his dog was wearing a collar along with a tracker device.

However, the heavy part for the travel influencer came when the suspect thief revealed he had sold Chutou at a dog meat restaurant for just 180 yuan.

There, Guo's beloved dog had been slaughtered and eaten.

The suspect reportedly did not tender an apology.

“The dog is dead, so stop making a fuss. I did not break the law," he allegedly told Guo.

At the restaurant, Guo confronted the worker who slaughtered the dog to recover his remains.

None was there.

“The hair was thrown in the rubbish long ago,” the butcher replied.

Heartbroken, Guo filed a complaint with police and presented them with the evidence he collected.

It is worth noting that in different parts of China, the consumption of dogs and cats has been banned.

However, there is still no nationwide prohibition on eating dog meat.
