Trump statue draws parallels to Homelander's one in 'The Boys'

In Season 5, episode 6, a giant gold Homelander statue was present when Annie and Hughie confronted Oh Father.

A similar gold statue, this time of President Trump, was unveiled at Mar-a-Lago during a ceremony in early May.

The giant 22-foot golden statue of the president – an eerie coincidence – strikingly matched with Homelander, who is recasting himself as a divinity in the final season of The Boys.

Not the first time

However, this is not the first time the wildly popular Prime Video show has drawn parallels to real-life events.

In Season 5, as mentioned above, Homelander has a vision of declaring himself a 'god'.

Initially, however, writers were a bit worried over this direction, Eric Kripke, the series creator, revealed in an earlier interview.

“A month ago when we were talking about marketing, I was like Homelander saying he’s God is so out there,” he told Polygon.

“We have to be careful about how we even introduce the idea to the public because they’ll say he’s gone too far, and here we are. It’s just really hard to out-satire this world.”

But he was caught by surprise when, unexpectedly, a real-world event undercut this shocking storyline in the show.

“This is the episode where Homelander decides he’s going to be God, and 48 hours before it, Trump releases an image of himself as God."

"A month ago when we were talking about marketing, I was like Homelander, saying he’s God is so out there. We have to be careful about how we even introduce the idea to the public because they’ll say he’s gone too far and here we are. It’s just really hard to out-satirise this world.”

The Boys is streaming on Prime Video.
