Palace shares rare update on King Charles’ State Visit to see Donald Trump
The Palace finally breaks its silence after weeks of chatter and calls to pause or cancel King Charles’ trip to the US
There has been a lot of talk pertaining to the issues between the UK and the US, and some even called for the King’s visit to Washington being canceled or paused, however a Palace spokesperson has finally spoken out.
Their statement points out the monarchy’s continued efforts to remain neutral and says that the King travels “on advice of His Majesty’s government and at the invitation of the president of the United States.”
They also pointed out that the visit is more so to “celebrate the historic connections and the modern bilateral relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States,” and for “marking the 250th anniversary of American independence.”
There are also cultural differences being seen because where the Americans are said to be “going with the flow” their UK counterparts showed up to “measure things,” as The Times revealed. There are even some who call the trip as a whole “in flux” and say anything is possible given the president’s unpredictability.
What Happened between the UK and Donald Trump?
For those unversed with the reason being these calls for a cancelation, it comes from President Trumps’ own statement where he said Sir Keir Starmer made “a big mistake” by not joining the war and called him “no Winston Churchill”.
But that wasn’t all, he also called the Royal Navy “toys” compared to their US counterparts and even criticized Nato troops for staying “a little off the front lines” when it came to Afghanistan.
The outlet even went as far as to reveal this caused a lot of displeasure in the Palace and prompted King Charles to showcase this by talking to the White House through Foreign Office back channels and prompting the President to backtrack.
