BBC has announced a special one-hour documentary to mark what would have been the 100th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II.

Titled Queen Elizabeth II: Her Story, Our Century, the film will touch upon the life and legacy of Britain's longest-reigning monarch and the shift in an era ever since.

“Spanning an era that saw the nation move from the age of Empire to the rise of celebrity culture — from the Blitz to the 2012 London Olympics — Queen Elizabeth II lived through extraordinary change," the official synopsis teases.

"More than a witness to history, she became an enduring symbol of continuity in a rapidly evolving world. Through the prism of her life, the documentary tells the story of modern Britain in a richly historical and emotionally resonant exploration of both The Queen and the people she served,” the synposis further states.

Several big names will contribute to the film with their personal memory of meeting The Queen and "powerful archive" footage and new interviews, including Barack Obama, Sir David Attenborough, HM Queen Camilla, and actresses Dame Sheila Hancock and Dame Helen Mirren among others.

Queen Camilla will be reflecting on the large crowds that gathered on the Mall for Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

While an air date will be announced in due course, it is expected that the film may air around Elizabeth II's birth anniversary on April 21, 2026.

Meanwhile, Buckingham Palace is also expected to mark the late Queen’s centenary with a variety of events.

In April, Norman Foster’s final design for a memorial to Elizabeth II in St James’s Park will also be released. At the same time, The King’s Gallery will host its largest exhibition yet of the late Queen’s wardrobe.

The author chosen to write the late Queen’s official biography is also expected to be announced.

Elizabeth II died on September 8 2022, aged 96, after having served as head of state for more than 70 years.
