SZA weighs in on possibility of becoming a parent
SZA has not publicly confirmed dating anyone recently after an earlier engagement to someone she never publicly named
SZA has revealed whether motherhood is on the cards for her.
The singer, 36, spoke candidly about her thoughts on motherhood in a recent interview with i-D, published on March 6, where she wondered if she may end a "karmic cycle."
"She can rest knowing that the mitochondrial DNA of every woman that came before her lives through me," the singer began, before adding that she's been speculating if she wants to continue that legacy anymore.
She explained that even her mother waited until she felt ready before having children, giving birth to her at the age of 43.
She then elaborated that she is perhaps taking her time before making any decisions.
“I’m bossed up, I’m taking my time. It’s spooky out here. Maybe I won’t have kids,” she said. “Maybe I will. Do I really want the magic and the love to end with me, or is it the end of a karmic cycle?”
The musician has previously spoken about other ways she has considered building a family.
During a March 2024 appearance on the SHE MD podcast with Dr. Thais Aliabadi and Mary Alice Haney, she discussed the idea of fostering or co-parenting with a close friend.
SZA said she once asked her best friend if they could raise a child together, but the idea was declined because both of them already had demanding lives.
The singer was previously engaged to a partner she has never publicly named, a relationship that lasted more than a decade. In a December interview with Zane Lowe, she said the relationship had influenced her early music career, explaining that she initially began making music partly to prove a point to him.
