Travis Bolt shares what wonders music did to his Tourette Syndrome tics
Travis Bolt reveals how music helped him get rid of facial spasms due to Tourette Syndrome
Travis Bolt recently got candid and opened up about how music helped him with Tourette Syndrome.
While conversing with PEOPLE magazine over Zoom, the 26-year-old singer said, “As cliché as this sounds, music is a medication.”
Bolt, who was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome at 11 years old, revealed that he was bullied at school.
He laughingly shared, “Kids are mean. I was overweight. I played the tuba. I had it all going for me, I promise you.”
The Aquamarine crooner went on to share that his passion for music developed during the time when his parents would take him to Larry Joe Taylor’s famed festival in Stephenville, Texas.
Bolt, whose father was a chef there, had good terms with the owner of the festival, which provided him with an opportunity to spend time backstage and watch the artists perform for crowds.
“It kind of gave me the bug then, and it escalated from there, or evolved,” he noted.
While working on his passion and developing his own style in music, the Colorado Rain hitmaker spent a good amount of his childhood on trial medications to manage Tourette Syndrome.
“I’m in a couple of medical journals,” he quipped.
Notably, while learning music, Bolt found out that music has the ability to temper some of his Tourette’s spasms.
“Playing guitar and singing actually slowed down my facial tics, so I just wanted to play all the time because I didn’t have to worry about it,” he elaborated.
It is pertinent to mention that Bolt has not come to a conclusion why it helped but it increased his passion for music.
