Queen Elizabeth "undoubtedly loved" her grandson Prince Harry, but she reportedly believed that he had let her down.

Royal author Robert Jobson revealed in Catherine: The Biography that the late Queen was deeply hurt by the Duke of York's decision to leave royal family.

Harry stepped down from his role of working royal alongside wife Meghan Markle in 2020. He and Meghan along with their children now live in California.

The royal author claims that Queen Elizabeth saw Prince Harry as "maverick" whose decision to leave royal life was represented as "missed opportunity" for both Harry and the institution. "She saw him as a maverick who had let her down," Robert wrote as quoted by Daily Mail.

Robert added, "She knew that he and Meghan had much to offer, but the idea of the couple earning millions by cashing in on their royal titles and status was abhorrent to her."

As per the author, the late Queen was clear in her views towards Harry's exit, stating, "You were either working for the Firm fully, or not. There was no halfway house."

On the other hand, she is also said to have been "adamant" that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex "must be stripped of their patronages and banned from using their HRH titles personally and commercially."

It is pertinent to mention that royal biographers have suggested that Queen Elizabeth was hurt by Prince Harry's decision. Moreover, friends revealed later that the late Queen never understood the Duke of Sussex's choice and was left heartbroken by the estrangement.
