England steal the spotlight with remarkable two-day Test victory in Melbourne
England ended an 18-match slump in Australia and avoided an Ashes clean sweep
In a historic and chaotic Boxing Day test, England defeated Australia by four wickets to end a 15-year winless streak. The victory also denied Australia a clean sweep, concluding an absurd two-day match at the MCG on Saturday, December 27.
It marks one of the strategic matches ever played as England chased 175 to win on the second evening of the fourth Test, leaving the series at 3-1 ahead of the finale in Sydney.
They successfully achieved the target inside 33 overs, with England’s win enchanting the thousands of fans who finally have something to celebrate on an otherwise dreadful journey.
The opportunity for England’s first Test victory in Australia since 2011 when England was created they skittled the hosts for 132 in their second innings at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
Brydon Alexander Carse claimed 4-34 and captain Ben Stokes 3-24 to cover the loss of Gus Atkinson, who is a doubt for the fifth Test after sustaining a hamstring strain.
Meanwhile Carse arrived as a pinch-hitter at number three after Crawley and Ben Duckett struck 51 in 6.5 overs-highlighting England’s unwavering aggression.
The winning runs came off the thigh pad of Harry Brook, sparking earsplitting cheers from the corner of England supporters at the end of a spectacular day.
The match concluded in just two days ,marking the end of England’s 15- year string of defeats on Australian soil.
