Zooey Deschanel, Charlie Cox say they signed on to 'Merv' due to one reason
Zooey Deschanel and Charlie Cox reveal their favourite romantic comedies
Zooey Deschanel and Charlie Cox enjoy watching romantic comedies.
While conversing with PEOPLE magazine to promote their new rom-com movie Merv, both Hollywood stars revealed that they love watching specific films in the romantic-comedy genre.
Referring to the 1989 film starring Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan, Deschanel said, "When Harry Met Sally is obviously a classic.”
The Harold and the Purple Crayon actress added, "I'm really a big fan of screwball comedies that are the original rom-com: It Happened One Night, Bringing Up Baby, The Awful Truth, Philadelphia Story.”
On the other hand, Cox is a fan of the 2001 project America's Sweethearts, which had an ensemble cast including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Julia Roberts, Crystal, John Cusack, and others.
"My very first trip to America, when I was 17, I went to an American movie theater and saw that film, and it's kind of a core memory for me," the 43-year-old English actor shared.
While conversing about their recently released film, Deschanel confessed she was excited to be a part of Merv, mainly due to its storyline.
She admitted, "I love rom-coms. For some reason, it seemed like people weren't making them very much for a while, I just wasn't seeing them.”
"I was just so excited to see a really great rom-com with these complex characters, and just a way to tell this sweet breakup and makeup story with a little bit of holiday and a little bit of puppy love,” the 45-year-old American actress and musician remarked.
Before concluding, it is pertinent to mention that Merv was released on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, on Prime Video.
