Nick Reiner was not at his parents’ Brentwood home when their bodies were discovered and was found hours later several miles away.
Authorities say the 32-year-old son of filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner, left the family home after the murder and was later located near the University of Southern California.
ABC News reported that police found Nick in the Exposition Park area, close to the USC campus, roughly six hours after the bodies were discovered.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that Nick was arrested in the Exposition Park area near USC at around 9:15 p.m. on Sunday, People reported.
Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead inside their Brentwood residence at approximately 3:40 p.m. the same day, police said.
Nick was taken into custody on suspicion of murder and is currently being held without bail at Los Angeles’ Twin Towers Correctional Facility.
A source told People that Nick is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
Sources previously told the magazine that the night before the killings, Nick also attended a holiday party hosted by Conan O’Brien with his parents, where he reportedly had a heated argument with his father.
One attendee described Nick as behaving erratically during the event.
Rob and Michele Reiner, who married in 1989, share three children, including Jake, Nick, and Romy.
Nick has spoken publicly about his long struggles with addiction, telling the outlet in 2016 that he entered rehab as a teenager and later faced homelessness as his substance abuse worsened.
