Since 2017, Sam Worthington, as Jake Sully, has been working on the Avatar franchise, which has seen the release of two movies, with a third set to drop on Dec 19.
But what many thought was the film series as a long continuity of several installments, was instead one giant movie.
It was revealed by the star, when asked to set the timeline straight on when he shot The Way of Water and Fire and Ash, Sam tells The Collider, "They're the same movie. When I read it, it was like one film. That's what it was."
He credits James for adjusting a single expansive story into different parts to manage them. "And because Jim, I believe he's the master of structure, he didn't want to kind of just cut it and dismantle it."
"He said, 'I'm going to separate them so they belong in the same world.' These two movies are basically the continuation, part one, part two, you could call it."
Given this, Sam clarifies that they shot Way of Water, and Fire, and Ash back to back. "But I think we started that in 2017? And we were filming them concurrently, not back to back. We filmed them at the same time. So one day you do The Way of Water, then you flip to Fire and Ash.
Avatar: Fire and Ash will hit cinemas on Dec 19.
