David Corenswet is a fan of James Gunn, under whose direction he became Superman. But during the shooting, he now shares, he had a creative clash with him over a scene.

This was a chuckle that happened when Lois Lane and Clark Kent kissed while floating near the end of the movie.

But the filmmaker was against it when David did it. "James [Gunn], when I was doing that, chuckled when she said, 'I love you too.' he came up to me and said, 'It’s not working. It needs to be solemn," he tells Jonathan Bailey during an interview with Variety.

Despite the director's view, the Superman star remembers standing his ground, stating, "I was like, 'No! The whole point is, "I f***** know that you love me.

"Credit to James. He was right on 90% of everything, but on that one, he saw that chuckle was a very truthful thing."

In other news, a trailer of Supergirl will drop this week. James previously said Milly Alcock, who plays the superhero, will fit in the DC universe but in a different way.

"Supergirl, especially, is a space adventure. It's like Guardians. Lanterns is its own thing," he continued.

"There's just a longer, sort of a bigger world we're building with all these different pieces and they do all come together and intersect sometimes in a story fashion and sometimes just in a, you know, 'Here's another piece of the world' fashion," the director added.

Supergirl will bow out in cinemas on June 26, 2026.
