Simone Biles recalls first date with Jonathan Owens

Simone Biles is getting candid about the moment she knew Jonathan Owens was special.

In a new chat with PEOPLE Magazine, the Olympic gymnast took a nostalgic trip back to their very first date, which happened five years ago after the pair connected on the dating app Raya.

Biles, now 28, revealed she returned home that night with a surprising certainty about the 30-year-old Chicago Bears safety.

“Gosh… It wouldn't even be giddy. What is the right term?” she recalled. “I could not stand when a girl says, ‘Oh, my God, I knew he was the one because…’ What is that feeling like? What does that even mean?”

The gymnast then admitted she experienced that very feeling herself.

“I don't know the term for it, but as soon as I met Jonathan, I remember coming home and telling my friends — because they were at my house getting ready with me for that little date. I came back and I was like, ‘Oh, I think I'm going to marry him.’”

“Why did I say that? I don't know. I don't know why I said that,” she continued. 

Biles has previously shared that she was the one who made the first move after matching with Owens on Raya.

“It was just a random weird feeling that I’ve never felt before, and then it just happened. I just think he was so kind and sweet, he made me laugh.”
