King Charles and Queen Camilla are seemingly taking inspiration from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as they follow a modern approach to connect with the public.
According to former royal butler Grant Harold, the royal family is using social media much like the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
He told GB News that the royal family’s official accounts on Facebook, X, and Instagram help them reach a global audience and engage directly with fans.
“The family has a massive fan base. They've got a global fan base, probably more than in the UK," he said. “Even other countries love the family, too, and that’s also down to social media."
The former royal butler added, “50 years ago, 40 years ago, 30 years ago, everyone knew the Royal Family, and what they were doing, the way they had been in the past.
"Now the world knows about them first, before you even read a bit of the news. It has given their old family a whole new platform, and they're embracing that to their advantage.”
Harold highlighted Harry’s relatable style as a blueprint for appealing to younger generations, particularly Generation Z.
He said that even without heavy social media use, the "exiled" prince set a standard for connecting with people.
“They (the Royal Family) need to be relatable. People love celebrities nowadays. We look up to these people for how they dress, how they act, their lifestyles, where they live and what they eat and drink," said Harrold.
“We have more social media influencers now so they've got to be more relatable to connect with the public. So they basically have to become a modern celebrity.
"That is what Harry was.”
