Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce spark big moment for English dictionary
Taylor Swift adds another 'accomplishment' to list after engagement with Travis Kelce
Taylor Swift’s engagement with Travis Kelce has turned out inspirational not only for the fans, but also for Cambridge Dictionary.
Following her engagement announcement and album release, the 35-year-old has just unlocked another accomplishment in 2025 as she has inspired the "Word of the Year" in Cambridge Dictionary.
Allegedly, there is word in the dictionary that has been slightly inspired by her engagement with Kelce and her songs lyrics.
The word is “Parasocial”, which psychologists describe as "bonding with stars".
How Taylor Swift became inspiration for Cambridge Dictionary’s Word of the Year:
The Cambridge University Press & Assessment explained that many fans feel a deep connection with her lyrics that mainly highlight heartbreak, desire and dating.
“Millions of fans related to Taylor Swift’s confessional lyrics about dating, heartbreak and desire, leading to what psychologists describe as “parasocial” bonds with stars”, reported NewsNation.
They further elaborated, “When Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement, many fans felt a deep connection to the singer and American footballer, even though most had never met them.”
The term “parasocial” has been existing for almost 70 years when sociologists witnessed people’s engagement with television personalities.
