‘Fedora Man’ from viral Louvre heist photo finally identified
Teen behind viral ‘Louvre Heist’ photo breaks silence: 'I wanted to keep the mystery alive'
The mystery photo of a man dressed in classic Frenchman look, standing alongside police, after the Louvre heist gained a lot of traction online, sparking countless theories.
The mystery behind the Associate Press photo has now been solved and the fedora man in the image turned out to be a 15-year-old boy named Pedro Elias Garzon.
Garzon, a Sherlock Holmes fan, said when he saw his name trending on all major media outlets and social media, he didn’t come out to reveal himself immediately but played along with the mystery.
Many claimed that he was a detective, an insider and some even suggested that the photo might have been created using generative artificial intelligence (AI).
In an interview with AP, Garzon, who rose to global fame from a single photo, said, “I didn’t want to say immediately it was me. With this photo there is a mystery, so you have to make it last.”
Garzon said that he understood all the mystery behind his photo, explaining, “I am dressed up more in the 1940s and we are in 2025. There is a contrast.”
The picture which made rounds on social media showed the 15-year-old all dressed up with an umbrella in his hand.
He was wearing a fedora hat, a waistcoat, jacket, neat tie and overcoat, complementing his look with a restored and war-battered Russian watch.
