Prince William hints at big change for George
Prince William teases new step for George that parents everywhere will relate to
Prince William has opened up about parenting in the digital age, revealing that his eldest son, Prince George, might be allowed a mobile phone with strict restrictions once he begins secondary school.
Speaking during his visit to Brazil for the Cop30 climate summit, the Prince of Wales admitted that none of his three children currently have phones.
“It is really hard. Our children don’t have phones,” he explained. “When George moves onto secondary school, maybe he’ll have one with limited access.”
The future king stressed the importance of explaining the reasoning behind their decision, particularly the risks of unrestricted internet access and the potential exposure to inappropriate content online.
“I think children can access too much stuff they don’t need to see online,” he said, suggesting that a basic “brick phone” for calls and texts could strike the right balance between connectivity and safety.
William also offered a rare glimpse into the couple’s transparency with their children regarding Princess Kate’s recent cancer battle, highlighting the family’s commitment to open communication.
The Prince of Wales’ candid remarks came during a conversation with Brazilian TV host Luciano Huck, staged alongside the Earthshot Prize event.
He acknowledged that the phone free policy has occasionally become “a little bit of a tense issue” with George, but said his eldest son understands the family’s concerns and rules.
