King Charles, along with Queen Camilla, made history last week when he visited The Holy See to meet Pope Leo XIV for the first time and achieved a rare milestone.
During the two-day visit, Charles and Pope Leo became the first monarch and pontiff to pray together 500 years after the Reformation, as they brought focus on unity and environmental care.
The theme for the ecumenical service in the Sistine Chapel was ‘Care for Creation’, however, “eco-warrior” Charles quickly became a target for backlash over his quiet move enraging the public.
Charles, who has long advocated for protecting the natural environment and spoken extensively about climate change, was mocked for flying his custom-built Bentley to Italy, suggesting that he isn’t following his own words of wisdom.
“Shocked that King Charles's Bentley was brought to Rome...” user Maeve Flanagan wrote on X.
Another called user, Sid Noble, lamented, “Hypocrites all of them”.
They continued, “Our Mr green lecturing king charles, flew his Bentley to the Vatican! Absolutely shameful, don't ever preach to us again about climate issues charlie boy, we are not listening [sic]”.
Meanwhile, one user pointed out that the vehicle had been transported because it runs on “biofuels” as a part of a “broader initiative to make the royal fleet more environmentally friendly”.

User pyrotechnician explained that it was “not uncommon world leaders to have an armored vehicle”.
Although that didn’t stop the rage brewing, with one user writing scathingly how they have been “washing out my yogurt pots” and the King is “flying privately, lugging his massive big car with him”.
For those who cited security measures to be the main driving force behind the decision, many claimed that there had to be a vehicle available in Italy which could have been used to transport the King and Queen for the short drive.
It is understood that Charles had hoped that his visit to the Vatican would not be overshadowed by headlines about his shamed brother Prince Andrew and the latest family drama the royals have been facing.
Although it seems the King himself brought upon the public backlash, something he may not have saw coming.
