LeBron James ‘The Second Decision’ post sparks retirement rumours

LeBron James shocked the entire basketball community with a cryptic social media post, “The Second Decision,” to make a major announcement.

This phrase is a clear reference to his infamous 2010 announcement, where he moved from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Miami Heat.

The 40-year-old superstar, who is about to start a record-breaking 23rd NBA season, posted a short, mysterious video on social media on Monday, October 6, 2025, promising to reveal “the decision of all decisions” on Tuesday.

The most significant speculation is that James will announce his retirement, possibly after the upcoming 2025-2026 season. This has already caused ticket prices for the Lakers’ final home game to soar.

However, many experts believe the announcement is more likely to be a major commercial or media venture, possibly connected to Amazon Prime Day, which is also happening on October 7, 2025.

In recent comments at the Lakers’ media day on September 29, James confirmed that the end of his career is near, but he has not set a date.

He told reporters, “I’m excited about the opportunity to be able to play the game that I love for another season.”

“Whatever the journey lays out this year, I’m super-invested, because I don’t know when the end is. I know it’s a lot sooner than later.”

He also stressed that his retirement decision will be a family matter, not dependent on his teammates or his younger son, Bryce.

King James is entering the final year of his contract with the Lakers after he exercised his $52.6 million player option this past summer.
