Princess Eugenie breaks silence after Sarah Ferguson email scandal
Princess Eugenie launches new campaign as Sarah Ferguson's royal dream finally ends
Princess Eugenie made her first statement after her mother, Sarah Ferguson, whose email to a controversial figure had been leaked.
On September 24, the Princess of York, who is the co-founder of The Anti-Slavery Collective, released a meaningful video with an emotional plea on her official Instagram page.
For the unversed, Eugenie's initiative aims to tackle "forced work in business supply chains."
In the new video, she and her team launched an important campaign, "Hidden Threads: Fake Fashion - A Human Rights Scandal," to address the growing desire among young people to buy fashion that is produced by forced labour.
The statement alongside the video reads, "Did you know that Fake fashion is a booming industry worth hundreds of billions, driving a hidden web of exploitation and harm to people and planet?"
"From forced labour and child exploitation to human trafficking, fake fashion - the kind you can buy online, on the streets, or on holiday - is rife with harm."
The Anti-Slavery Collective's spokesperson shared that they hosted an event in New York City in which "fashion insiders, behavioural change experts, brands, and specialists" took part.
The experts shed light on this overlooked human rights scandal.
Speaking of their new campaign, Princess Eugenie's spokesperson said that this campaign "calls on governments to collect and share data on illicit trade and counterfeiting and implement and enforce forced labour bans."
At the end of her emotional message, Eugenie and her team urged people to avoid buying fake "handbags, football shirts or trainers" in order to support those who are being exploited with forced labour.
It is important to note that Princess Eugenie returned on social media as the Duchess of York hit with back-to-back setbacks.
First, Fergie's email to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein circulated in the media. Shortly after, several charities severed ties with Prince Andrew's ex-wife.
It has also been reported that her relationship with King Charles may be affected as a result.
