Aaron Rodgers leads steelers to comeback win in season opener
Aaron Rodgers marked his Pittsburgh Steelers debut with a statement performance, leading his new side to a thrilling 34-32 comeback
The 41-year-old quarterback, returning to MetLife Stadium after his short and delicate spell with the Jets, faced razzes from the crowd but responded with four touchdown passes.“I was happy to beat everybody associated with the Jets,”
Rodgers said.“It was nice to win, especially hearing some of the raspberries. I anticipated that, I kind of liked it.”
Rodger’s return
Rodgers endured two tough times in New York, including a torn Achilles that ended his first season.
The Jets moved on before this time, but the four-time NFL MVP showed he still has plenty left.“There were presumably people in the organization that did not suppose I could,” Rodgers added, “It was nice to remind those people that I still can.”
Rodger’s performance
Three of his four touchdown throws displayed the trademark delicacy that defined his career with the Green Bay Packers.
Andre Brandt, former Packers vice president, told BBC Sport, “He’s always had that capability with ball placement. He’s lost some speed, but this joe can sling it.”
Rodgers’s debut figures were a significant enhancement on his final season in New York, reviving recollections of his MVP juggernauts in 2020 and 2021.
NFL critic Phoebe Schecter stressed how Rodgers’ style contrasts with the moment’s mobile quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen.
“Rodgers is a classic pocket passer, he doesn’t run much, but his throws are still on a rope, so perfect,” Schecter said.
What’s next for the Steelers?
Rodger’s performance raises the question can he still carry a team deep into the season?
For now, Pittsburgh suckers will enjoy the comeback win and hope that Rodgers’ final chapter in the NFL includes further wins like his game.
