The investigation continues to scrutinize the cause of the incident
On Monday afternoon, several people reported injuries following the evacuation of Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 4 due to a “potential hazardous material incident”.
However, Metropolitan Police confirmed that officers were called to Heathrow after 20 people reported injuries.
Upon further investigation, it has been observed that no trace of any hazardous substance was found.
The London Ambulance Service has confirmed that 21 affected people were treated at the Heathrow Airport.
Only one had been taken to hospital while all the others had been discharged at the scene.
A spokesperson for the force said in a statement, “On Monday, September 8, at 16:56 hrs, police were called to a potential hazardous materials incident at Heathrow Airport, Terminal 4.”
Earlier on Monday evening, the airport had advised passengers to avoid traveling to Terminal 4, due to the hazardous material incident which led to disrupted services at the terminal.
According to the transport secretary, Heider Alexander, the situation is being closely monitored, and she is continuously receiving updates from the emergency services at the airport.
Flights from Terminal 4 were largely unaffected, with only a few delays expected, and the cause of the incident remains under investigation.
In addition, Heathrow saw a marginal increase in passengers with 7,981,137 travelers in July as compared with 7,980,455 during the same month in 2024.
