Anna Wintour taps ‘proud nepo baby’ Chloe Malle for top Vogue role
Chloe Malle has worked for Vogue for 16 years, starting off as the magazine’s social editor in 2011
After months of industry speculation, Anna Wintour has named Chloe Malle as the new head of editorial content for American Vogue.
In June 2025, Anna Wintour stepped back as editor-in-chief of American Vogue after 37 years but retained senior positions at its publisher including Global Editor Director for Vogue’s parent company, Conde Nast.
The announcement was made on the official website of the magazine, confirming Malle as the successor to one of fashion’s most elite roles.
The 39-year-old previously worked as an editor of Vogue.com, a role she has retained since 2023.
Under her supervision, the site's traffic reportedly doubled.
Her career with Vogue started in 2011, when she began working as the magazine’s social editor.
In addition to it, she co-hosted the popular podcast, “The Run-Through,” and gave high-profile print cover stories.
“I've spent my career at Vogue working in roles across every platform — from print to digital, audio to video, events and social media,” Ms Malle said.
According to the magazine, Malle’s vision for the iconic publication includes a significant shift in its print strategy, potentially moving from a monthly schedule to fewer, more collectible special editions focusing on specific themes.
Instead of chasing mass appeal, she has also expressed a desire to cultivate a “smaller, healthier” niche audience.
Malle comes from a privileged background. She studied literary arts and comparative literature at Brown University before working for the New York Observer and contributing articles to various prominent publications in the US.
She is also the daughter of actress Candice Bergen and director Louis Malle, calling herself a “proud nepo baby” while stating it made her “work much harder.”
