Is Netflix down? Thousands of users report major outage
Netflix is down, affecting thousands of users in a major outage
Netflix, the popular streaming platform, went down on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, as thousands of users reported a major breakdown in North and South America.
Users started experiencing issues at 6:15 p.m. ET when they were unable to watch their favourite shows and series. Various glitches were reported, such as: the app is not loading, shows or movies are not playing, and being unable to connect to the Netflix servers
Outage tracking websites like DownDetector showed a significant spike in user reports. The issue was not small, as more than 11,000 users in Mexico, Canada, and the United States reported the problem.
Some of the Netflix enthusiasts who felt frustrated after the massive outage went on social media platforms like X to find out whether someone else was having the same issue.
One user wrote on X, “Ran on Twitter to see if Netflix was down, and I see it’s not just me, was in the middle of my show.”
Netflix has not given any explanation regarding the breakdown. Their official help page stated that, “You may have problems streaming titles on some devices. Try another device, or try again later.”
Some users gave updates that their service has been restored, but it was not a complete fix for everyone and many users are still facing the same issue.
This is not the first time Netflix has had a major service disruption. A similar outage happened in May 2025, which saw a massive number of technical issue reports.
Who is the owner of Netflix?
Netflix is a publicly traded company with thousands of shareholders. The major institutional stakeholders are BlackRock, Inc. and The Vanguard Group.
