Typhoon Kajiki: Vietnam orders 586,000 evacuations ahead of storm
Evacuations have been ordered in the central provinces of Thanh Hoa, Quang Tri, Hue and Da Nang
Vietnam is bracing for Typhoon Kajiki, which is expected to make landfall in the Asian country on Monday, August 25.
586,000 people have been ordered to evacuate from the danger zone as it has been revealed that the typhoon is currently packing winds of 166km/hr and is expected to get stronger.
Evacuations have been ordered in the central provinces of Thanh Hoa, Quang Tri, Hue and Da Nang.
Daily life has been disrupted by this natural phenomenon as flights are cancelled and boats have been told to stay ashore.
According to BBC News, the Chinese authorities have forecast up to 320mm of rain as the Typhoon Kajiki passes through the Hainan province in China.
Vietnam expects to receive around 300mm to 400mm of rainfall. The typhoon will weaken after landfall as it moves inland into Vietnam, however, the country can still experience winds at a speed of 200km/h.
The government has deployed soldiers for any emergency situations. The ministry of environment and agriculture said: “The situation is extremely dangerous and not safe for any vehicles or structures such as tourism or fishing vessels as well as aquaculture raising facilities.”
Officials fear that the storm could be as destructive as Yagi, which the country experienced in September 2024.
Yagi was strongest strom to 70 years to strike Vietnam resulting in the deaths of 325 people.
