Rúben Dias has secured his long-term future with Manchester City after signing a contract extension till 2029.

Manchester City also offered a clause for further extension of 12 months in the contract.

The 28-year-old defensive stalwart previously played for Benfica until 2020 having being sold for £65 million. Quickly, the footballer established himself as the cornerstone of Pep Guardiola’ defense.

Playing his first season, the experienced player was awarded titles like "Premier League Player of the Season” and the "Football Writers Association Footballer of the Year.”

Since joining Manchester City F.C. in September 2020, he has played in 223 games and contributed to the unprecedented success of his club, winning the title of the Premier League four times as well as the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Champions League, the FA cup, and the English Football League (EFL) Cup.

Dias shared his remarks, stating, “I am incredibly happy today. I love Manchester, it is my home now, and I love the Manchester city fans.”

Recalling his favourite moments, he said, “When I think about the trophies we have won and the way we have played our football during my time here, I couldn’t imagine playing anywhere else.”

The club’s Director of Football, Hugo Viana, praised Dias as “a leader in the dressing room and on the pitch,” admiring his professionalism and influence among players and staff.

Following the extension of Dias’ contract, it is expected that the club will shift its attention on the future of John Stones and Bernardo Silva next, since both their deals in the club have one year remaining, and that of Ilkay Gundogan and Ederson have less than 12 months remaining in their contracts.

It is also reported that another young defender Rico Lewis is also close to sign a new five-year deal.
