King Charles dons kilt for solo outing after Camilla’s emotional admission

King Charles donned traditional Scottish attire as he stepped out in Campbeltown for a solo outing following Queen Camilla’s emotional admission about feeling “undeserving.”

On Thursday, July 3, the 77-year-old monarch visited Campbeltown, a tight‑knit community on Scotland’s Kintyre peninsula which was once known as the whisky capital of the world.

The King toured the bustling farmers’ market at the Tartan Kirk Heritage Centre — sampling local produce and talking to vendors — before pausing in evident surprise to observe a traditional sheep‑shearing demonstration.

The King’s day began at the centre’s market, a lifeline for Campbeltown’s 4,400 residents, where stalls brimmed with artisanal cheese, fresh seafood, local beef and award‑winning whisky. He spoke at length with farmers tending spiky Highland lambs, as well as distillery owners keen to share the region’s whisky‑making legacy.

The outing marked day three of the annual Royal Week, whereby senior royals tour Scotland to celebrate its culture and achievements. Though the Queen had accompanied Charles for several engagements on day one and two, she sat out the latest outing.

The previous night, Camilla hosted a reception for the Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland (QNIS), marking her first engagement as Patron of the organisation.

There, she was honoured with a QNIS badge, which made her very emotional

“I feel very undeserving of this award, especially having spoken to so many of you,” she told her guests.
