Prince William follows in King Charles step as he makes big announcement
Prince William is looking forward to a major event that is going to set an important example for the world to witness amid his training to become the next king.
The Prince of Wales, who is reportedly keen on leaving behind a mark of his reign before he has even ascended the throne, will be travelling to Rio de Janeiro for the fifth Earthshot Prize Awards later this year.
Following in the footsteps of his father King Charles, who has been an advocate of protecting the environment throughout his life, William founded the Earthshot Prize in 2020. The Prize was established to look for practical solutions to protect the environment and something that would actually alleviate pollution and climate change in the world.
In a fresh announcement about the latest iteration of the Earthshot Prize on Tuesday, the future king revealed how the upcoming visit has personal connection.
“From a personal point of view, I’ve always wanted to get South America, particularly Brazil,” William said during Leading with Impact event during London Climate Action Week.
“So, I’m personally very excited about going down there. I think South America as a whole, the amount of ecosystem, kind of environmental interest and passion that is there.”
He added how it’s “really important” to understand how much the South Americans have been doing for sustainability.
“I think that's really important. And I think they epitomise the approach to what we can be doing more sustainably. The vibrancy, the energy, the enthusiasm. I think the awards will be spectacular.”
The 2025 ceremony will be held on 5 November at the Museum of Tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro. This will be the first time the prize will be held in Latin America and coincidently just days before Brazil hosts COP30 in Belém.
