Prince William sets sights on Brazil as Kate’s attendance hangs in balance
Princess Kate skips Earthshot stops in Singapore and Cape Town
Prince William has officially confirmed his attendance at this year’s Earthshot Prize ceremony, set to take place at the iconic Museu do Amanhã in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil marking the first time the prestigious environmental awards will be hosted in South America.
The Prince of Wales shared the news during a special ‘Leading with Impact’ gathering in the City of London on Tuesday, where he met with Earthshot Prize finalists as part of London Climate Action Week.
His announcement follows April’s reveal that Rio de Janeiro would serve as the 2025 host city.
The Earthshot Prize, launched in 2020, has previously taken centre stage in London, Boston, Singapore.
The celebration will spotlight breakthrough environmental solutions through a packed programme of events all leading up to the main ceremony, where five winners will each be awarded £1 million to supercharge their impact.
In a dynamic announcement video, Prince William appeared alongside Earthshot Prize Trustees Dame Christiana Figueres and Dame Jacinda Ardern, as well as Council Members Cate Blanchett and Nemonte Nenquimo.
A star lineup of global supporters added to the excitement, including Robert Irwin, Nomzamo Mbatha, Billy Porter, David Beckham, Hannah Waddingham, and Heidi Klum.
Representing Brazil were football legend Cafu, broadcaster Maju Coutinho, actor Marcos Palmeira, and former footballer Mauro Silva.
This year’s 15 finalists will benefit from a year-long accelerator programme, receiving expert mentorship, technical support, and business development resources to help scale their groundbreaking solutions for the planet.
