Prince Harry is extending an olive branch across the Atlantic and it comes in the form of a royal invitation.

The Duke of Sussex is preparing to invite King Charles and senior members of the Royal Family to the next Invictus Games, set to take place in Birmingham in July 2027.

The invitation, expected to be sent out soon, is already being seen as a significant gesture of reconciliation from the Sussex camp.

Launched by Prince Harry in 2014, the Invictus Games stands as one of his most remarkable charitable achievements.

Created to support wounded, injured, and unwell military personnel and veterans, the Games have grown into a global celebration of resilience and recovery.

The 10th anniversary was recently marked with a moving ceremony at St Paul’s Cathedral.

Back in 2014, then Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, and Prince William all attended the opening ceremony of the inaugural Games.

With that precedent in mind, royal watchers are downplaying the fact that the 2027 finale coincides with Queen Camilla’s 80th birthday suggesting it’s unlikely to be a scheduling obstacle.

As patron of national unity in his role as head of state, Charles holds a natural connection to the Invictus Games, a global event honouring wounded and injured military personnel.

Turning down such an invitation could be seen as putting personal pain ahead of public duty. But accepting it could reopen wounds from a deeply fractured family dynamic.

Harry recently admitted he and his father are no longer in contact, and reports suggest he and Prince William haven’t spoken since Queen Elizabeth’s funeral.
