Princess Kate’s Brazil plans in limbo as William prepares for spotlight
Princess Kate skips ceremony again after 2022 appearance
Princess Kate’s appearance at this year’s Earthshot Prize Awards in Brazil is still up in the air, royal insiders have revealed.
While Prince William is expected to attend the prestigious environmental ceremony in November, sources say the Princess of Wales is 'unlikely' to join him though they haven’t ruled it out entirely.
According to The Mail, Palace aides have responded with a non-committal 'TBC' when asked directly about her travel plans.
Kate, who underwent chemotherapy last year, is reportedly limiting foreign travel as she continues her recovery.
Her last Earthshot appearance was back in 2022 in Boston. She missed the 2023 ceremony to support Prince George during school exams, and last year’s event due to her cancer treatment.
According to royal sources speaking to The Mail, Kate is now “quite strict” about choosing which engagements to attend, prioritising those that are essential while scaling back on others to support her ongoing recovery.
Her recent absence from Royal Ascot, where she was initially expected to join Prince William, served as a reminder that her return to royal life remains fluid.
Palace officials noted she was "disappointed" to miss the event, but emphasised her need to "find the right balance" as she eases back into the spotlight.
"People forget that even if they aren’t seeing her in public, she’s very hands-on behind the scenes with the team in the office," a source told The Mail.
"She has her own projects to pursue, such as her early years initiative. That’s a lifelong commitment for Her Royal Highness."
Instead of international travel, Kate is expected to focus on domestic engagements this autumn, including more “royal away days” across the UK.
In April, she tested the waters with a two day visit to the Inner Hebrides, and insiders say she’s eager to undertake more trips of that kind.
