Palace holds meeting to discuss Prince Harry’s Invictus Games invitation
King Charles mulls Prince Harry's olive branch as senior officials work out schedule
New hope is beginning to emerge in the contentious relationship between King Charles and Prince Harry ahead of a major event as meetings take form on the next step.
The Duke of Sussex is set to return for his passion project that still ties him to the UK and the royal family: Invictus Games. The sporting event for injured and sick veterans, founded by Harry in 2014, is set to return to in July 2027 in Birmingham.
A new report by The Mail on Sunday claimed that Harry is sending an invite to his cancer-stricken father to the event in hopes that the monarch “will set aside their differences to attend the Invictus Games and support veterans”.
The Duke of Sussex is expected to send an electronic invitation this month, with formal documentation to follow. The Invictus Games spokesperson shared that formal invitations have not yet been issued since the “preparations are in early stages”.
Meanwhile, Harry has approved the guest list – which includes the royals – and the wordings of the invitations. The emails will be sent to private secretaries at the palace.
Insiders revealed to The Telegraph that discussions are taking place among senior level Palace aides over a possible appearance as this could prove “a timely opportunity to mend bridges”.
The discussion began after the Palace felt that there “could have been more support for the hugely successful international event” when it was held at Dusseldorf, Germany, in 2023, per a well-placed source.
Apart from the element of reconciliation, officials believe that such an international event being hosted in the UK, which celebrates the achievements of the sick and wounded veterans, may appear “churlish” for the royals to not attend.
Even if the monarch does not show up, there is a possibility that he may delegate the role to someone on his behalf.
