The latest addition to Meghan Markle’s As Ever line may have sold out fast, but not everyone’s buying the hype.
Jam expert and MasterChef alum Donna Collins has weighed in on the Duchess of Sussex’s apricot spread, telling the Daily Mail it’s unlikely Meghan is the one actually making it.
“I don’t know who’s making her spread, but we all know it’s not Meghan,” said Collins, who runs The Jelly Queens. “It sounds like they really don’t know what they are doing.”
Collins also slammed the product’s quality. “It’s a real disappointment that Meghan is selling a fruit spread, which is what you make when your jam fails,” she said.
“It can have the best ingredients, but if I had a jam that was too runny, I’d slap a label on it and call it a spread. There’s no excuse for this. It should be perfect.”
She went on to criticise the use of conventionally grown apricots, “which will have used pesticides,” and questioned why pectin was included if not to artificially thicken the botched jam.
Despite the critique, both versions of the spread sold out in minutes during Friday’s restock.
But Collins suggested that was only because Meghan “made a small batch.”
