The Prince of Wales is already planning for when he inherits the crown from King Charles
Prince William is already laying the groundwork for his future coronation, and it’s shaping up to look nothing like King Charles’s.
According to a new report by The Times published on his birthday (June 21st), the Prince of Wales is planning a major “overhaul” of the royal family’s way of doing things. And he’s starting at the beginning: the coronation.
Sources close to the future king told the outlet that William wants his ceremony to “look and feel quite different” from his father’s.
First and foremost, there’ll reportedly be no swearing of allegiance. “There is no way he (William) will go down that route or anything like it,” an insider said, referencing the “homage to the people” moment that sparked backlash during Charles’s 2023 service.
William is also undecided on wearing the Imperial State Crown, with one source calling it “that ridiculous thing that looks like it’s out of Disney.”
But the vision goes far beyond ceremonial tweaks. William is also said to be reevaluating the monarchy’s entire structure. “He’s mindful of how much the monarchy costs,” a source shared. “He’ll be hands-on in creating a leaner organisation.”
“When the moment comes, he’ll want to do it his way: genuinely, not just following a script,” said a close friend.
Jason Knauf, his longtime confidant, added: “There are traditions and things that won’t change, but… this thinking about the next [role] is how is this going to be reflective of him?”
