Prince William, Kate ‘testing’ King Charles patience after rare privilege
Tensions build behind Palace walls after King Charles doubts decision about Prince William, Kate Middleton
King Charles appears to be thrown into a dilemma as tensions begin to brew between him and the Prince and Princess of Wales.
While reports suggest that the monarch is supportive of the ‘quiet’ training Prince William and Kate Middleton as they prepare to take the throne in the future. However, William’s bold plans and Kate’s different approach seem to be setting doubts about King Charles’s reign.
The royal family is set to gather for the final day of the Royal Ascot on Saturday, however, during the second day of the five-day event, Kate’s last-minute cancellation threw Palace into a fresh wave of panic.
Princess Catherine battled cancer for nine months last year and the King is empathetic towards her choices about prioritising her health, especially since Charles himself ins undergoing weekly cancer treatments.
Although, sources suggested to The Daily Beast that since Kate and William have no interest in horseracing, she simply pulled out of disinterest, a snub to the monarch, who loves attending the Royal Ascot.
“There is a perception in some quarters that Kate just doesn’t like racing and so didn’t make the effort. That is probably not fair, but you have to wonder if she would have missed Wimbledon, which she adores,” the insider told the outlet.
The source noted that Kate must have been “genuinely unable to come, yet the last-minute nature of the way it was announced makes the king look disrespected”. They pointed that such a decision during Queen Elizabeth’s reign would not have been possible.
“Clearly, Kate wasn’t feeling up to it, but there is no denying that the whole affair was badly handled,” they said. “You can’t blame their office as they are the last to know, William and Kate make their own decisions on their own time, which is another source of frustration to everyone else trying to steer the tanker. They pulled the plug at the last minute.”
Although, a friend of Charles maintained that the King is “very thoughtful and considerate”. Moreover, the King has Kate and William the “privilege” to tackle their public duties differently “clearly supports their decisions”.
